Shak's career over; WIlliams' season done
Sophomore running back Sausan Shakerin’s career is over. The former Alta High star has been medically disqualified after suffering a concussion on the opening kickoff of the second half at Notre Dame. He missed the first four games of the season with “concussion symptoms” and has had multiple concussions in his career.
“Looking forward, he was the heir apparent to the running back position,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. “Obviously that’s a big change in plans now.”
Shakerin is fourth on the team with 105 yards rushing on 12 carries. He scored two touchdowns. As a freshman, Shak ran for 198 yards and a touchdown on 36 attempts.
Junior linebacker J.J. WIlliams re-aggravated the foot injury that limited him to just two games this season, including a start at Notre Dame. WIlliams will most likely need surgery and will miss the rest of the season. He finished the season with four tackles.
