No Cyclones in 2011
Let the changes begin.
Utah’s 2011 non-conference football schedule is undergoing a facelift as the Utes move from the Mountain West to the Pac-12.
The first change was announced by a third party — Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard.
“The changes to our football schedule are the result of the recent conference realignment moves that have affected several leagues across the nation,” Pollard said on ISU’s athletic department web site. “Moving to a nine-game conference schedule in the Big 12 required us to drop a non-league game. Utah was in a similar position with its move to the Pac-10 so we’ve agreed to drop the 2011 game with the Utes.”
A home-and-home series between Iowa State and Utah will end at the halfway point — an Oct. 9 meeting in Ames, which will begin at 5 p.m. (Mountain) and be televised by Fox College Sports.
Montana State is expected to replace the Cyclones on Utah’s 2011 home schedule. The two other non-conference games next season are road dates at Pittsburgh and Boise State. Bet on the latter to be changed as the rivalry game with BYU is scheduled for Provo.
There is a monkey wrench, though.
The Utes need a favorable Pac-12 schedule (five home games instead of four) in 2011 to ensure at least six games at Rice-Eccles Stadium next season.
Stay tuned.
Utah athletics director Chris Hill said anything other than the Iowa State game – regarding the non-conference schedule – won’t be finalized until after the Pac-10 meetings, Oct. 6-7.
