Chris Tunis will be missed

Chris Tunis was one tough cookie. Not so long ago, while covering a Salt Lake Bees game at Spring Mobile Ballpark, I had the chance to visit with Chris. Despite being weakened by cancer, Chris had made his way up to the press box. He sat and chatted with those of us “covering” the game. He never complained about his plight. In fact, Chris was optimistic.
When word of his passing reached the media near the end of Utah’s football practice Monday evening, there was plenty of sadness. Chris Tunis was one of those rare journalists, a guy who was well liked by those in the newspaper, radio, television and sports information industries. Even coaches liked him.
“Chris Tunis was one of the good guys, one of the truly good guys, and was very talented at what he did,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said after hearing the news. “We’ll miss him. There’s no doubt about that. He will be missed.”
I couldn’t agree more.
