Football camp: Day 14 (PM)

The Utah football players gave a rousing cheer as they sat in a circle at the end of practice Friday evening.
Why?
It was the final day of two-a-days. Starting Monday, the team will be on a regular schedule of one afternoon practice per day from 3 to 4:50 p.m.
“It’s the last two-a-day for the seniors, so it’s always a milestone,” said coach Kyle Whittingham about the reason for the cheers.
However, as far as the coach is concerned, he was sad to see two-a-days end.
“I wish we had three or four more two-a-days,” he said with a laugh. “We certainly can use every one of these last 13 days (of practice).”
As for Friday’s practice, Whittingham said, “It was a good practice overall. We were upbeat, playing fast and the execution level was pretty good.”
Whittingham said he’s happy overall with the way practice has gone over the first two weeks, except for the injuries.
“We’re a little more banged up than we hoped to but we got a lot of work done and made progress,” he said.
Whittingham confirmed that freshman receiver Kenneth Scott would be out for the year after having surgery on his foot. Whittingham called it a “blow” because Scott had cracked the two-deep at receiver. It helps that JC transfer Dexter Ransom arrived on Wednesday. He is expected to move into the two-deep soon.
The Utes will have their third scrimmage of fall camp Saturday morning. Whittingham said the “twos” will get most of the work and that the team would work on “a lot of situational stuff.”
