Football camp: Day 3

Utah’s first practice with shoulder pads went well Saturday morning at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
“It was good competition, a very spirited practice,” said head coach Kyle Whittingham. “That’s what football is all about.”
Quarterback Jordan Wynn was pleased with the offense, noting that they ran one of the cleanest two-minute sets since his arrival last season.
Whittingham said that all of the guys you expect to perform well did. He was especially impressed with the young receivers, mentioning Terrell Reese, Kenneth Scott, Reggie Dunn and Dres Anderson in his post-practice comments to the media.
On defense, Whittingham said that freshman defensive end Joe Kruger is continuing to make strides – as is junior cornerback Conroy Black.
“He just continues to get better and better,” Whittingham said before adding that Black is making the starting job opposite Brandon Burton a “very close, heated competition.” Black is getting a chance to show what he can do while senior Lamar Chapman is sidelined with a strain.
