California QB to sign with Utah
Utah football’s 16th recruiting commitment for 2011 turned out to be pretty sweet. Highly touted quarterback Derrick Brown (6-2, 237) of Vista Murrieta High School in California has accepted a scholarship offer from the Utes.
The senior-to-be is a dual threat who scored 15 touchdowns last season. He passed for 1,743 yards and rushed for 913.
“I wanted to feel at home wherever I was,” said Brown, who recently attended a camp at Utah. “I went there and loved everything about it.”
Brown plans to sign a letter of intent in February and join the Utes next summer. He’s a big fan of former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
“His leadership is the best,” Brown said. “He’s a competitor.”
As for Utah’s upcoming move to the Pac-10, Brown said it’s “a plus” but was not a major factor in his decision to play for the Utes.
