Ute basketball rumors

Some of the latest rumors about the Utah basketball program have involved Marshall Henderson, the Utes’ freshman guard who was the second-leading scorer last season. I first heard the rumor shortly after the season ended, but didn’t think much about it until Carlon Brown and Chris Hines both left the program last week, a week after Jordan Cyphers and Matt Read did.
There have been some reports on the Internet that Henderson is considering the possibility of transferring, but hasn’t decided. People I’ve talked to in the Ute program expect Henderson to be back, but don’t act surprised about rumors he might leave.
What puzzled me was a report that one of the schools he was looking to transfer to was Texas Tech and that he had even visited Lubbock.
Texas Tech? Have you ever been to Lubbock? I have, in fact a couple of times in the past year and it’s not exactly a garden spot.
Who knows what connection he might have there, but if you look at the Tech roster, it might be a place Henderson could play. Of the three main guards, one is a senior and two will be seniors next year. If Henderson were to transfer, all three would be gone the following year when he would be a sophomore.
One advantage is that the school is in a more prestigious conference. The coach is Pat Knight, Bobby’s son, who has coached two full seasons and a portion of another, compiling a mediocre 34-34 record.
I am on vacation this week, so I hope for a quiet week in the Ute basketball program.
