Fotu injures knee in practice

Senior Nai Fotu, who entered spring ball as the frontrunner at middle linebacker, injured his left knee in practice Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium and was carted off the field.
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said the extent of the injury was not immediately known.
“The important thing right now is just diagnose the injury and see what’s going on,” he said.
Fotu injured the same knee in the BYU game in 2008 and wound up missing Utah’s Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama. The injury also kept him out the following spring.
The linebacker played defensive end last season and made 23 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, in 13 games. As a starting stud linebacker in 2008, Fotu tallied 35 stops and two sacks.
