Utes to get some shooting help for next year
It’s been obvious for most of the season that the Utah basketball team needs some help in the shooting department. It looks like the Utes will be getting some JC help next year.
According to the Casper College website, Antonio DiMaria, a 6-foot-6 wing player has committed to play for the Utes next year.
DiMaria, a native of Pittsburgh, has averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds per game and made three 3-pointers per game in leading his team to a 19-7 record. In his most recent game Saturday night, he scored 26 points while going 5 for 7 from 3-point range.
According to the news story from Casper, DiMaria said he chose Utah because of his relationship with assistant coach Barret Peery and head coach Jim Boylen and because the Utes have a “need for a bigger wing who can shoot and help stretch the defense.”
His coach, Joel Davidson, said, “”Antonio is first and foremost a great kid. He is also a very unselfish player and a great teammate.”
The Ute coaches can’t comment publicly on any new recruits until after letter of intent day in April.
Utah has already signed three players in the fall, forward J.J. O’Brien, guard Dominique Lee and guard Preton Guiot. The Utes are losing three players, seniors Luka Drca and Kim TIllie and redshirt freshman Jeremy Olson to an LDS mission.
So how could DiMaria fit in?
From what I hear, Lee may still have some work to do to get eligible for next year. I’ve also heard that at least one of the current underclassmen will not be returning. And it wouldn’t surprise me if the Utes sign another player in the spring besides DiMaria.
