Utes need shot of confidence this week
The Utah basketball team seemed to be in good spirits today as they practiced for a couple of hours before heading to Texas tomorrow.
Coach Jim Boylen is happy to have his full squad for a change and hopes it makes a difference Wednesday night against TCU. With three players from the Dallas area — Marshall Henderson, Shawn Glover and Matt Read — and one from Houston — Chris Hines — the Utes hope to have some solid support at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Henderson said he will have a large following at the game and Read and Glover said they’ll have family and friends there as well.
This will be a huge game for the Utes, who need a shot of confidence after three straight defeats. Having Henderson back will be huge because it opens up the lane for Jay Watkins and Carlon Brown to drive the ball. The Utes also hope the week between games will help the tired legs of David Foster and get his backup, Jason Washburn, healthy after several days of sickness.
Although he won’t say it, Boylen appears to be looking ahead to next year a bit, by playing Glover more and Kim Tillie less. When I asked why Tillie wasn’t playing as much Boylen said, “He’s got to play better.” Boylen and the other coaches have been very frustrated by Tillie’s continued inability to go strong to the basket and finish at the rim.
