Injuries still plague Ute basketball team

Dropped by Ute practice today at the Huntsman Center and witnessed another spirited hour-long practice under coach Jim Boylen.
This time Jace Tavita joined Jason Washburn on the sidelines with an injury. Tavita sprained his ankle last week, while Washburn is still sitting out with his sprained knee and not expected back until late October.
The Utes are still mostly working on defense and rebounding with covers on the baskets much of the time. When they did play a brief scrimmage toward the end, the Red Team (starters) included Kim Tillie, Luka Drca, Carlon Brown, David Foster and Jordan Cyphers, who is still playing with a broken finger.
However, Boylen said things change from day to day and the starters won’t be determined for awhile. Boylen has been impressed with freshman forward Shawn Glover and had him playing with the starters earlier in the week.
Like all college teams, the Utes are allowed to practice two hours a week, until October 17, when they can start practicing on a regular basis.
