Homecomings on Thursday

If you know of a family with divided loyalties in the battle between the Utah Utes and USU football teams in the “Battle of the Brothers” please write Twalch@desnews.com

Former Utah defensive coordinator Gary Andersen won’t be the only one in blue experiencing a reunion of sorts in Thursday’s game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Aggies have several other connections up on the hill, including defensive coordinator Bill Busch. He coached Utah’s defensive backs from 2001-03 before leaving for Nebraska.
“I’m extremely excited,” Busch said. “That was a place that was very, very special to me.”
Busch noted that Utah’s defense held the opposition scoreless over his final 10 quarters with the program.
Others on USU’s staff with U. ties include offensive line coach Alex Gerke, linebackers coach Kevin Clune, defensive line coach Chad Kauha’aha’a, running backs coach Ilaisa Tuiaki, strength coach Evan Simon and director of football operations Steve Mathis.
And there’s more.
USU cornerback Curtis Marsh is the son of former Ute wide receiver Curtis Marsh, Sr., and sophomore receiver Ben Macey is now an Aggie after two seasons at Utah, including one as a redshirt.
