Wednesday morning: Utes hit halfway point of camp
The Utes hit the halfway point of fall camp practices Wednesday morning with a non-descript practice at Rice Eccles-Stadium. Nobody played exceptional, nobody got hurt and there was no controversy to talk about.
Coach Kyle Whittingham reiterated that the quarterback race is a dead heat and that it might be awhile before he names a starter. That sounds no different than what we’ve been hearing all month except that it’s now a two-man race with Corbin Louks out of the picture.
Whittingham also said that quarterback-turned-receiver DeVonte Christopher is “the most improved player” since spring ball and has moved up to the No. 5 or 6 spot among the deep receiver corps. He also praised defensive tackle David Kruger and making great strides since the spring and said the Utes are very deep on the defensive line, unlike a year ago.
As for injuries, the Utes have been lucky so far and Whittingham said except for “the usual bumps and bruises” the Utes are pretty healthy.
The Utes will hold another practice Wednesday afternoon, one practice Thursday and conclude two-a-days with two practices Friday.
