Wednesday afternoon: Misi update
Starting defensive end Koa Misi left Wednesday afternoon’s practice early with what was initially described as a back spasm.
“That’s as far as I know at this point,” said head coach Kyle Whittingham. “He was cramping up and they took him off.”
Whittingham went on to explain that the trainer told him that Misi got a spasm and was being taken back to the football facility to have it worked on. The injury occurred in a light contact drill against offensive lineman Zane Beadles.
Misi left the field on a golf cart, flat on his back.
Although Whittingham acknowledged he was “real concerned” about Misi, the coach is hopeful it’s nothing serious.
“It just knotted up on him,” said Whittingham, who noted that Misi experienced some tightness in his back a few years ago.
In other news, the Utes wore shorts in the afternoon session to take a break from wearing full gear. Whittingham said there were no real standouts in the second practice of the day.
