Camp update: Day 8

A dramatic double day that began with the quarterback race being reduced to Jordan Wynn and Terrance Cain ended with a practice that pleased head coach Kyle Whittingham.
The Utes, he said, were “much more crisp in the afternoon.”
Cain and Wynn were among the bright spots.
“I thought both quarterbacks looked good this afternoon,” Whittingham said. “Terrance was very sharp, particularly sharp, and Jordan had a good afternoon as well.”
The team, as a whole, is working through a challenging time of camp. With the Sept. 3 season opener still a ways away, Whittingham said “it takes a lot of mental toughness to push through it.”

Corbin Louks, the odd man out in the quarterback competition, is weighing his options after being demoted to No. 3 on the depth chart. The speedy junior is mulling over an opportunity to switch sides of the ball and become a defensive back — most likely after a redshirt year to become more familiar with the secondary. He played some safety in high school and could slide into a starting spot next season with Robert Johnson and Joe Dale graduating.
