Ute recruit lights it up in all-star game
Losing the three best shooters from this year’s team in addition to center Luke Nevill, makes some Ute fans nervous about next year’s basketball team. However, the Utes may just have a freshman coming in who can fill the void left by Shaun Green, Tyler Kepkay and Lawrence Borha.
Marshall Henderson lit it up in the DFW East-West All-Star game Thursday night, leading his team to a 111-89 victory by scoring 40 points. Henderson, who played for L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, just outside of Dallas, finished with 13-of-17 shooting, including 7-of-9 from 3-point range.
Henderson was the only player on his team to finish in double figures.
“I didn’t want to come out and do average,” he told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I wanted to kind of stand out. I wanted to start fast. I was hoping my first couple of shots would go in. When they did, I said, ‘Yes!’ “
“Marshall was phenomenal,” said coach Tommy Brakel.
The Utes are hoping Henderson will turn out to be a phenomenal player for them over the next four years.
