Boylen glad to have missionaries in program
Coach Jim Boylen had a lot to say at his season-ending press conference last week and we’ve been sharing parts of his 40-minute interview since. He talked about how he likes having missionaries in his program. Center David Foster returns in May, Josh Sharp leaves in June and incoming freshman Jeremy Olsen is expected to leaves a year from now.
“Sharp will hand off the baton to Foster and he will come back. Olsen will come for one year and go on his mission. We’ll start to have guys on missions, which I like. That was a goal of our program to have one or two of those coming back, hopefully with their man body and more mature and more developed. That process is rolling,” Boylen said.
After Foster returns in May, he’ll go home to California for a few weeks and return in time for summer school at the U. in June.
Sharp will leave in June on his mission to Houston, where former Ute Britton Johnsen served and also where Boylen coached for more than a decade with the Houston Rockets.
Olsen will join the program next fall and will either play or redshirt before he is expected to go on a mission after the season.
