It's time for recruiting
Up until Tuesday, the Utah basketball coaching staff will be out recruiting for the 2010-11 season and beyond. The Utes already have five players signed up for next year and after Morgan Grim left the program earlier in the week, they have the allotted number of 13 scholarships for 2009-10.
Utah coach Jim Boylen can’t talk about specific recruits, but he did reveal some of the places the Utes are recruiting right now, including Chicago, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Portland and Los Angeles, in addition to Utah.
“We’ve re-established our national name,” Boylen said. “We’ll continue to recruit the best players we can recruit.”
Only three coaches are allowed to be out on the road recruiting at the same time. Each of the coaches has certain areas to recruit — Jeff Smith covers the Midwest and Texas, Stan Johnson has California and Las Vegas, while Barret Peery covers the Intermountain area and the Northwest. As the head coach, Boylen goes to all of the aforementioned areas.
After Tuesday there will be a recruiting “dead period” and the Ute coaches will join their coaching colleagues from around the country for the Final Four in Michigan.
