MWC weekend results perfect for front-running Utes
The weekend couldn’t have gone much better for the Utah basketball team.
The Utes got some much-needed rest with a bye Saturday and then sat back and watched the right teams win games Saturday.
First it was New Mexico, which blasted San Diego State by 26 points in Albuquerque. Then late Saturday evening, UNLV held off a late BYU rally to defeat the Cougars.
The results leave the Utes with a commanding two-game lead entering the final two weeks of the season.
Utah stands 10-2, while BYU, San Diego State and New Mexico are all tied at 8-4, while UNLV is 8-5.
By winning their two remaining home games against UNLV Wednesday night and TCU on March 7, the Utes can get at least a share of the title. Three wins gives them an outright title.
The team to watch could be New Mexico, which has the easiest road games left at Colorado State and Wyoming. If the Lobos could win those two and win its home games, including Utah on March 2, they could grab a share of the title.
