No time to panic for U. basketball
A lot of Ute fans, encouraged by the recent four-game winning streak and pounding of Wyoming and LSU, were disheartened by Saturday’s loss at San Diego State.
While the Utes certainly didn’t play their best, the Aztecs had a lot to do with it. They may be the best defensive team in the league as shown by their No. 3 ranking in the nation in scoring defense. The Utes actually scored eight more points than the Aztecs were giving up, but 16 turnovers compared to only six for SDSU, was the main difference in the game.
With games coming up against probably the two worst teams in the Mountain West Conference this week — at Air Force Wednesday and at home against Colorado State Saturday — Utah should get back on the winning track with another big road game coming the following week against UNLV.
If the Utes lose two games this week, there’s definitely reason to panic. If they lose one, then we might start wondering if the Utes are going to have another CBI season, rather than a run at the NCAA tournament.
