Utes' play-calling questioned

You’d think with a 10-0, No. 7-ranked team, fans would have little to complain about. But there’s always something.
After consecutive 13-point games with just one touchdown in each, some Ute fans are upset with the offense and in particular the play-calling. For years, offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig has been a whipping boy for disgruntled fans, but when the Utes’ offense is rolling, they forget about him.
I’ve always thought Ludwig gets too much of the blame when the offense mis-fires, but after watching the past two games, I wonder if his play-calling is as much to blame for the lack of offense as Johnson, another whipping boy for many fans.
Johnson has proved to be at his best when he is directing the two-minute offense like he did in the win over TCU, the win over Oregon State and to a certain degree, the win over Air Force.
One person close to the program pointed out that when the Utes are in the two-minute offense, the control is taken away from the offensive coordinator. Today I specifically asked Brian Johnson who calls the plays in the two-minute offense and he acknowledged he did.
Johnson was also quick to praise Ludwig and said he wouldn’t want the responsibility for the whole game.
Still, it makes you wonder if the Ute offense might be better with Johnson calling more plays and Ludwig fewer plays.
