Leota suspended

Utah officials have confirmed that junior linebacker Lisi Leota has been suspended from the team indefinitely after reportedly assaulting people at a Halloween party over the weekend.
Liz Abel, associate athletics director, said that head coach Kyle Whittingham made the decision after learning of the situation.
Leota allegedly punched at least two men at a gathering at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house. Salt Lake City police responded to a complaint at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, but did not make an arrest.
The Daily Utah Chronicle reported that Leota said “he was getting pushed around and harassed by some of the fraternity men” and his reaction “was in self-defense in the heat of the moment.”
Leota apologized for his actions, acknowledging he put himself in a situation where he didn’t belong. The newspaper said he hopes to repair the damage done to his team and his relationship with Greek Row.
“I accept full responsibility, and I’m not going to make any excuses,” Leota told the Chrony. “Whittingham did exactly what a coach should do to any teammate who makes a mistake.”
Leota appeared in three games this season and made five tackles. He transferred to Utah from Snow College after a stellar career at Granger High School.
