It is what it is
The Utes have moved up to 20th in both polls this week . . .
While much has been said about how uncompetitive the Utah-Utah State series has become — Saturday’s 58-10 win at Romney Stadium was the Utes’ 11th consecutive triumph over the Aggies — fact is, it’s still viewed as a rivalry by head coach Kyle Whittingham.
“Well it’s an in-state rivalry. You know, at times, we have recruiting battles with Utah State. I think it is important we play well in rivalry games,” Whittingham said. “We have had a pretty good run the last while (but) it is still a hundred-plus years old. (There) are a lot of reasons why this continues to be a rivalry.”
A few observations:
Brent Guy may not be the only one USU should look at replacing. How about the marketing department? Walk-up tickets for the game cost more than $30 apiece. No wonder it wasn’t close to being a sellout. It killed the atmopshere and is contributing to the slow death of what used to be a fun rivalry. Why not pack the place and provide a somewhat hostile environment for Utah and BYU to visit this season? USU’s students are great. Why not surround them with thousands of rowdy friends?
Nah, makes too much sense.
USU’s marketing plan is as successful as . . . the football team.
And while on the topic, there’s plenty of speculation that John L. Smith may be waiting in the wings to replace Guy as head coach.
I think the Aggies should consider hiring Utah defensive coordinator Gary Andersen. He’s the kind of “guy” they need to fix what is broken.
Nah, makes too much sense.
