Camp report: Day 9, Session 2
We expected some news on missing wide receiver Aiona Key this afternoon, but nothing has changed.
When I asked Whittingham about Key after someone else in the program hinted something might be coming down today, he didn’t know anything new.
“It’s unbeknownst, to me if it is,” he said. “It’s a day-to-day thing and it’s out of our hands. It’s frustrating situation.”
Whittingham did confirm that the former Boise State/Mt. SAC receiver is not in town and said, “We won’t bring him here until everything is all set.”
As for the afternoon practice, Whittingham called it “very good” and “high tempo” and singled out defensive end Koa Misi, cornerback Sean Smith and receiver Brent Casteel as having excellent practices.
On the injury front, freshman wide receiver Ryan Lacy joined the “pit” with a dislocated shoulder.
“A lot of guys will be coming out of the pit tomorrow,” Whittingham said.
He said he expects Stevenson Sylvester, David Reed, Joe Dale to all be back Thursday and perhaps Matt Asiata, who he said will be back for sure on Friday.
Tyler Williams, who sprained his ankle earlier in the week, is likely out until next week, Whittingham said.
Practice ended with the coaches doing “gassers” instead of the players after coach Jay Hill lost a foot-race to freshman Siaki Cravens. Hill claimed the freshman got a head start.
