FOOTBALL CAMP: DAY 1

So far, so good for the Utes. The first day of camp went off without a hitch Monday at the practice fields. Split sessions, featuring the 1′s and 3′s in one group and the 2′s and 4′s in the other, went well.
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham was especially pleased with his team’s conditioning and the return of players who are coming off of surgeries. The group includes quarterback Brian Johnson, wide receiver Brent Casteel, running back Matt Asiata and defensive end Paul Kruger.
Whittingham said Johnson threw the ball well and was free of pain in the opening session of camp.
Junior college wide receiver David Reed participated in the second session. Aiona Key, the other highly touted JC receiver headed to Utah, is expected to join the other 104 players in camp as early as Wednesday. Whittingham, however, said Friday or Saturday is more likely. Key has completed his academic requirements, but is waiting for final grades to be posted.
