Back to work
For the second consecutive year, the Utes won’t open camp with a shuttle run to determine the team’s overall fitness level. Head coach Kyle Whittingham is bagging the tradition that began under Urban Meyer because the team had 100 percent participation in summer conditioning workouts — something that didn’t happen in the past.
Utah, in fact, had 108 players participate in the voluntary workouts. Strength and conditioning coach Doug Elisaia led the sessions, which has left the Utes ready to hit the practice field right away.
The first two days will feature split sessions with the 1′s and 3′s going from 8:55-10:15 a.m. and the 2′s and 4′s following at 10:30 a.m. Because of the NCAA’s acclimatization period, the players will don helmets and shorts until Wednesday when additional gear is added. The first practice in full pads in Friday.
