Wilson out

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed that wide receiver Marquis Wilson will not play for the Utes this season.
“Marquis will not play this fall,” Whittingham said. “That has been determined.”
Whittingham said it was “a combination of things” that led to the decision. Wilson has the option of using a redshirt year or transferring to another program for his senior season.
The former Juan Diego star, who faced drunken driving and possession of alcohol by a minor charges in 2006, made 52 receptions for 832 yards and six touchdowns in 33 games over his career at Utah.
Wilson has indicated a desire to stay with the program. If he does redshirt, however, he won’t join the team until after two-a-days and then only as a scout team player.
Whittingham still feels good about Utah’s receiving corps, which features veterans Brent Casteel, Freddie Brown and Bradon Godfrey. Whittingham indicated that junior college transfers David Reed and Aiona Key are on track to complete academic requirements and are expected to be in the program before fall camp opens on Aug. 3. Tight end Dudley LaPorte may not. He could end up as a redshirt unless his academic issues are resolved soon, enrolling at the U. as late as next January.
