Monty's coming to the Huntsman Center after all
So Mike Montgomery will be coaching at the Huntsman Center after all.
In case you missed it Friday, Montgomery was named as the new basketball coach at the University of California.
The former Stanford and Golden State coach, you remember, was at the top of a lot of Ute fans’ lists to replace Ray Giacoletti a year ago. However, Montgomery had no interest in the Ute job and most folks figured he wouldn’t coach again considering he was 60 years old. The fact that he can still live in the Bay Area, where he has resided for a couple of decades, likely played a factor in him getting back into coaching.
So what is Montgomery’s connection with the Huntsman Center?
Well, Cal if scheduled to play at Utah next year in a return game after Utah played there in December (and won 67-65). I believe the game will be played sometime in mid- to late December.
The Utes have one of the more attractive home schedules in years coming up with Oregon slated for early in December and Gonzaga coming in on New Year’s Eve in addition to Cal. The full, official schedule likely won’t be released until early summer.
