Utes could end up in Houston along with Spartans

The Utah basketball team was excited about Michigan State’s victory over Pitt Saturday night, as the Spartans advanced to next week’s Sweet 16.
Of course coach Jim Boylen is excited about the team he coached last year and several others with the Ute program have Michigan ties, including Jon Dykema, the director of basketball operations, assistant coach Jeff Smith and video coordinator Jason Larson.
But here’s what has them excited. The Ute and Spartan contingents could both be in Houston at the same time later this week.
The Spartans are heading to Texas to play in the South Regional at Reliant Stadium in Houston. If certain things work out, then the Utes could be there too for a game against the Houston Cougars.
First the Utes must defeat Tulsa Monday night in Tulsa and hope that Houston defeats Valparaiso. Then they must hope that the CBI, in its wisdom, sends the Utes to Houston, rather than Bradley or Ohio or Virginia or Old Dominion, depending on who wins those other games, for a third-round game.
The South Regional games are on Friday and Sunday, but the Spartan contingent would probably arrive by Wednesday evening in time for some to support the Utes. It’s unlikely however, that the Utes would be able to stick around until Friday to watch the Spartans’ game.
I realize, all of this is a stretch, but at the very least, the Utes could end up in Houston Wednesday night if they can knock off another Conference USA foe in Tulsa Monday night.
