Last-minute win is big confidence-builder for Utes

Of course Thursday night’s overtime victory was the biggest of the season for the Utes.
If they would have lost that game after seemingly having the game in control and blowing an 11-point second-half lead, it could have drained whatever confidence the team had left and left a bad taste in their mouths that would have lasted throughout the offseason.
Instead, the Utes finally found a way to win in the final minute, thanks to a couple of give-and-go plays between Luka Drca and Luke Nevill and a huge defensive block by Nevill to prevent the go-ahead basket by UNM’s Darren Prentice.
Now the Utes are two wins away from an unlikely NCAA berth and they may have put themselves in position for a possible NIT bid and a likely bid to the new College Basketball Invitational.
Afterwards, coach Jim Boylen repeated what he said earlier in the week.
“I really feel like this team is kind of an iceberg,” he said. “There’s so many good things, big things under the surface. We just haven’t broke through yet.”
Now they finally have and it could bode well for the next couple of days and for next year.
“Maybe this is the win that will give us some confidence for this year, but also for the future,” Boylen added.
