Johnnie be very good
The Utes couldn’t have asked for a much better performance than they had Saturday against TCU. They jumped out to a 20-3 lead and after briefly letting the Frogs climb within 8 points early in the second half, quickly put the game away thanks to their outstanding 3-point shooting (51.9 percent).
Johnnie Bryant was the man, breaking a school record that dated back to 1990 when Phil Dixon hit 7 3-pointers against Wichita State. Since then, Phil Cullen tied the record in an NCAA loss to Indiana, Nick Jacobson tied it twice and Bryant tied the mark himself last year against Virginia. The fact that the college 3-point line is being moved back a foot next year, means Bryant’s Ute mark might be tough to break.
Besides Bryant, the Utes got an outstanding performance from Luka Drca, who become the first Ute in three years to pass out as many as 10 assists per game. Over the past eight games, Drca has passed out 42 assists, more than fellow guards Bryant, Lawrence Borha ahd Tyler Kepkay combined.
With games coming up this week against the MWC’s two worst teams in Wyoming Wednesday and Colorado State Saturday, the Utes have a good chance to being 4-3 in MWC play before facing one of the league’s best in UNLV at home the following Wednesday.
