Finishing strong is Utes' strong point
If you saw yesterday’s Ute win over Air Force, you might have been a little nervous as Ute fan for the first 30 minutes or so. But over the last 10 minutes, the Utes outscored the Falcons 20-5 to win going away.
Finishing strong has been a pattern in a lot of Ute wins this year, which coach Jim Boylen credits to the Utes’ superior conditioning.
In fact over the past five home games, since losing to Santa Clara, the Utes have outscored their opponents by an average of 24-11 over the final 10 minutes of each game.
Against UC-Irvine, the margin was 33-10 and against Utah State it was 19-9. Against Missouri State, it was just a five-point edge, 22-17, but it was 27-14 against Idaho State, before the 20-5 edge against AFA.
That’s a big reason why the Utes are 9-4 this year, compared to 5-8 last year when the Utes lost several games in the closing minutes.
Next up for the Utes is Dixie State Wednesday at home.
